Are you considering designing a new home?
Sometimes this can be an overwhelming process and clients don’t know where to begin. One tip to inspire you is to begin looking in magazines for rooms that would make you feel “at home”. Once you have selected one or two images, start to really think about why you like these rooms. Is it the color palette? Is it the comfortable looking furniture? Is it a specific fabric?
When you are able to narrow down the elements of the room you like, you can begin searching for that piece of furniture, fabric and or color scheme. This will create a starting point in which you will be able to expand upon your first selection process. If you have one fabric you will be able to choose a second fabric and then choose a paint color that works well with your selected fabrics.
As you begin to make selections, the room will automatically start to come together. Try to make selections that balance one another out. If you have light walls, choose a sofa that is a few shades darker so that there is contrast. If you have light walls and a light colored sofa, choose fabrics that have texture to add some visual interest.
Design is about your eye traveling from one beautiful element of the room to another. This can be accomplish by shape, texture and color. If you like to sit in chairs instead of a sofa, design your living room with a grouping of chairs. Ultimately the room needs to meet your expectations and you need to feel comfortable in your own space functionally and aesthetically.
