Designing a bathroom can be tricky but with a few helpful hints can be a relatively easy process. Ultimately bathroom design comes down to some simple questions about the clients’ lifestyle. How many people are using the bathroom, would the client like a tub or a walk in shower and where to place lighting in order to apply makeup.
A great rule of thumb for lighting is to have two next to your mirror at eye level and have one in the center mounted higher up. This lighting is best for applying makeup as it does not create shadows. A client should decide if they would like a tub or walk in shower. A bathtub can create a great focal point in a bathroom but if the client does not need a tub this creates more room for a walk in shower.
After designing the configuration of your bathroom a designer will be able to walk you through the selection process. Tile should be water impervious and should come in various sizes for different areas of the bathroom. For example, your shower floor tiles should be much smaller than your wall tiles so that it is slip resistant. Having different shapes also creates visual interest.
Your selection process is primarily based on your style and what look you are trying to achieve. When working with a designer they will be able to narrow in on your specific likes and dislikes and create a bathroom that is luxurious and functional.
