Traditional home design continues to be one of the most popular designs for interior spaces. The reason traditional homes stand the test of time is because they are mainly based around being comfortable, functional and have understated details.
Generally, traditional homes have furniture with a mix between horizontal and vertical lines, edges are usually smooth and color schemes consist of colors that are warm or muted. Furniture is arranged on a straight axis meaning a sofa will sit in front of a fireplace or sit directly perpendicular to the fireplace.
Traditional design is all about classic pieces and symmetry. When designing a home it can be overwhelming trying to figure out where to start. It is important to begin by thinking about what your family needs functionally and then narrow in on the aesthetics of the home. Some areas to consider when designing a home are what is my style? What do I want/need? What is my budget? Working with a designer can be a very valuable experience. Often times, clients know how they want their house to look but do not know how to achieve this look or where to begin.
As design professionals, our job is to listen carefully to what the clients’ expectations are and then exceed these expectations by coming up with a design that not only works functionally but is beyond what they could have imagined aesthetically.
