Interior Design for Multilevel Homes

There are many questions that come up when trying to decide how to design a multilevel home. The first is usually how can clients best utilize their space? A good way to design a home with more than one floor is first to decide what each room is going to be used for. Are the rooms upstairs for guests or children? Are one of the rooms for an office?

Once you have decided the function of the room, you can start to think about what furniture you need in the room. A good idea is to make a list of each room and then make a list of the furniture you want each room to consist of. Once you have a list of everything you need you can begin searching for your furniture. The style of furniture can set the stage for the style of your home. If you are choosing furniture that is more clean line, your house will look more modern. If your furniture has more detail your house may look more eclectic or traditional.

To create balance in your multilevel home it is a good idea to have the color of your home be consistent throughout. You can then add wallpaper and/or accent colors to specific areas to create texture and interest. Another way to unify the upstairs and downstairs is to have the same molding, doors and door hardware throughout the home. Keeping colors and materials consistent will allow your home to flow from one level to another.
