Some questions you may want to ask yourself are what kind of design changes are you interested in?
Are you already living in an existing home but looking to make some design changes?
Did you just buy a new home that was previously owned?
Are you looking to modernize your home?
What elements of the space are you keeping?
When designing a home, you need to think about what design elements already work for you and the design elements you want to change out. A good way to start is to think about the items you are keeping in the space. Can these be relocated somewhere else for better use? Then think about what you want this room to be used for functionally. Do you need more seating? More storage? Once you have narrowed down the function of the room you will be able to start selecting furniture and its placement.
It is a good idea to get a copy of the floorplan so you can draw in where you want certain pieces of furniture. This way, everything is mapped out before you start moving pieces and/or purchasing pieces. If you are trying to come up with a color scheme, look at what is already existing. Is the tile a specific color? Does the area rug have a variety of colors in it that you can choose from? You can begin matching paint colors to your already existing details to set the tone for the room. From there, you will be able to add more interest with accessories and other finishing touches.
